How can I specify the width of a SELECT element?

How do I fix the maximum width even when the list items are much wider?

how do i add horizantal scrollbar to select/option if length of text is more than the width property

With NN4+ (though the docs don't list it)
  <SELECT WIDTH="200"
works,
with IE you can use CSS
  <SELECT STYLE="width: 200px"
taken together you use
  <SELECT WIDTH="200" STYLE="width: 200px">

As to how to add horizontal scroll bars,
as far as I know you can't.  And you can't
have a select option that spans multiple
lines either.
