Does a folder alert automatically apply to sub-folders?

A folder alert applies to the folder it was activated in and all the 
subfolders beneath that folder.

This can result in you receiving a lot of email alerts, for that 
reason it's best to place alerts on folders you are only particularly 
interested in.
