Linux: Log on: User: Operation: Userid: Change: Root: How to change
your userid to 'root'? [su]
---
Steps: Overview:
1. -Open a console
2. -Type the command
su
1. If you are already the root, nothing is shown
2. If you are not the root, it will show a prompt
Password:
1. Supply then your root password
3. In Linux Red Hat v9 you might have to wait a while
after this, as it does not immediately return
to the command prompt
4. -If the password for root is accepted,
to check you current userid, type
whoami
1. This should then show 'root'
---
---
This has been tested successfully in:
-Linux Debian v3
-Linux Mandrake v9
-Linux Red Hat v9
-Linux Slackware v9
-Linux SuSE v9
-Linux TurboLinux v9
