Is there a maximum length for a string?

Marti, Gael Marziou,

The manual doesn't say anything about length limits, but the actual 
limit is probably defined by memory_limit attribute in php.ini (aside 
with the other variables).
Also, as far as I've used PHP I haven't had any problems with string 
lengths.
