Network: Internet: TCP/IP: Connection: Operating system: Microsoft:
Windows:How connect your laptop?

---

Steps: Overview:

 1. -Make sure network card connection is present

 2. -Check the connection: Ping another computer on that network

     1. On the another arbitrary computer check its current IP address

         ipconfig

and note its IP address (e.g. 10.0.0.39)

     2. Make sure your computer has the same address range

        e.g. 10.0.0.x

otherwise you can not ping that computer

     3. Ping from your computer to this address

e.g. type on an MSDOS command line the command:

           ping 10.0.0.39

          1. If no reaction (e.g. host unreachable), check cables and
             other network router settings

           1. Possibly replace or reconnect cables and check again

     4. Check if the Internet connection of this computer
is working correctly (e.g. type an address,
        (say http://www.faqts.com) in the
browser of that computer, and see if this webpage
        is shown)

 3. -Check the network settings of this other computer

        ipconfig /all

     1. Note its IP address range (e.g. 10.0.0.39)

     2. Note its gateway (e.g. 10.0.0.1)

     3. Note its DNS server (e.g. 153.168.23.55)

 4. -Fill in this same details in your network settings

     1. Control panel

     2. Network settings

        1. Choose the same IP address range
           (e.g. 10.0.0.40), or let
the IP address be generated automatically

        2. Choose the same gateway as that other machine

        3. Choose the same DNS server as that other machine

     3. Store this settings

 5. -Possibly restart the machine

 6. -Check the proxy settings in e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer

     1. -select from menu option 'Tools'

     2. -select from list 'Options'

     3. -select tab 'Connection'

     4. -Disable or enable proxy

         1. If enable supply the correct proxy IP address

            (e.g. 192.168.0.1)

  7. -You should now be able to connect to the Internet with
      your browser
