Microsoft Windows XP:

Steps: Overview:

 1. -Goto Windows 'Control panel'

     1. -click button 'Start'

     2. -select from list 'Control panel'

 2. -Click on icon 'Network connections'

 3. -Right click on your broadband connection
     (e.g. from your internet provider Ethernet modem)

 4. -select from list 'Create shortcut'

 5. -A Windows dialog box will open with the text:
     'Windows cannot create a shortcut here
      Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop
      instead?'

 6. -click button 'Yes'

 7. -This will create a shortcut on the desktop
