Perl: ActiveState: Install: How to: How to install ActiveState Perl?

---

Steps: Overview:

 1. -After possibly making a backup,
possibly recommended is to you remove your old version
     of Perl completely

      1. e.g. remove the Perl directory c:\perl,

      2. Make sure in the

          'Windows Add/Remove programs'

         list that your

          'ActiveState Perl'

         entry has been removed.

       3. Note that ActiveState Perl v5.8.6.811 has such a serious
problem installing e.g. DBD-MySql, that I had to return
to a previous versionn Perl v5.6.1.630, where it worked
          perfectly

As even as the installation overwrites old versions of the
software, there were serious problems running the software
     correctly afterwards.

 2. -Download the latest version of ActiveState Perl at

         e.g.

           Perlv5.8

           12.5 megabytes

http://www.activestate.com/Products/Download/Download.plex?
id=ActivePerl

     1. The .msi version includes an installer

     2. The .zip version does not include an installer
You have to unzip it yourself in the directory.

 3. To install the .msi version

    1. Type the name of the .msi file on the MSDOS command line

        e.g.

         ActivePerl-5.8.6.811-MSWin32-x86-122208.msi

       1. -This will start the installation wizard

        1. -Press 'Next' to accept the defaults

       2. -The installation will possibly overwrite older versions
of your Perl automatically (e.g. in the 'c:\perl'
           directory)
