You could display the programs in a single column.

Steps: Overview:
1. -Right click on the Windows taskbar
2. -Select from list 'Properties'
3. -Select tab 'Start Menu'
4. -Click button 'Customize...'
5. -Select tab 'Advanced'
6. -Scroll down the list 'Start Menu Items'
until the checkbox 'Scroll Programs'
7. -Enable checkbox 'Scroll Programs'
8. -Click button 'OK'
9. -Click button 'OK'
10. -You could then e.g. sort this filenames
in 'All Programs' to get them in
alphabetic order and so easier to
locate
