The methodology wherein hypothesis leads to conclusion.

This deductive process is known as proof.

A chain of coupled TRUE only statements, working from begin statements 
to
final conclusions.

A proof is a chain of logical reasoning (something like IF this is 
TRUE and
that is TRUE and that is TRUE and that is TRUE, ..., THEN this MUST be
TRUE).

Your aim is to start from some assumptions and to arrive trough a 
chain of
true statements to what you have to show.
