How can I read from a text file located in my server space using javascript?

Randy,
You can use the XMLHttpRequest object to retrieve the content of
that text file from the same server from which the current web
document was loaded. The use of this object is part of what is now
called AJAX. Just as DHTML is merely about using JavaScript
to "D"ynamically modify the "HTML" markup, AJAX is a fancy acronym
for "A"synchronous "Ja"vaScript and "X"ML but is not just for XML
requests. See this document for more information regarding the
XMLHttpRequest object:

Take care,
Dave Clark
