TomCat is a software server from the Apache
Software Foundation that executes Java servlets.

TomCat interprets also Web pages that include Java
Server Page (JSP) coding.

It uses the Jasper converter to turn JSPs into servlets for
execution.

Tomcat can be used as either a standalone product with its own internal
Web server

together with other Web servers, including

 1. -Apache

 2. -Netscape Enterprise Server

 3. -Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS)

 4. -Microsoft Personal Web Server.

The Tomcat software server listens by default on port 8080.

Tomcat is widely used with the JBoss application server.
