Blackberry: 8700: How to deploy/transfer Java program to Blackberry?
[.alx / .cod / javaloader]
My current experience is that the Blackberry Desktop Manager
using the 'Application loader' program gives an error if
you try to upload your program from your computer to your
Blackberry
(e.g. continuous to give the error
'No additional applications designed for your handheld were found')
valoader.exe program works just fine with the saks just fine with the
same Java
application.
===
Method: Deploy using the javaloader.exe program
===
Steps: Overview:
 1. -If applicable create and compile your mobile Java application
     1. -Use e.g. Netbeans
 2. -Make sure Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.1.1 is installed
 3. -Install Blackberry 'Handheld' software v4.1
 4. -Connect your Blackberry using its USB cable
 5. -Open an MSDOS box and type the following command:
      javaloader.exe -u load YourMobileApplicationName.cod
     (adapt the path to javaloader.exe and your .cod file)
 6. -That will show a screen output similar to the following:
--- cut here: begin --------------------------------------------------
"c:\program files\research in motion\blackberry jde 4.1.0
\bin\javaloader.exe" -u load "c:\documents and
settings\administrator\mobileapplication1\dist\mobileapplication1.cod"
RIM Wireless Handheld Java Loader
 Copyright 2001-2005 Research In Motion Limited
 Connected
 Loading MobileApplication1            Done
 Disconnected
--- cut here: end ----------------------------------------------------
===
Tested successfully on
Microsoft Windows XP Professional (service pack 2),
running
javaloader.exe
===
Method: Deploy using the Blackberry Desktop Managerew:
 1. -If applicable create and compile your mobile Java application
     1. -Use e.g. Netbeans
 1. -Connect your computer with your Blackberry
     1. -Connect black USB cable between your computer and Blackberry
         1. -The first time Microsoft Windows might detect your
             Blackberry as new hardware and install drivers (and ask
             for the installation CD)
 2. -Install Blackberry desktop manager program v4.1
     (if not already installed)
     1. -Install it from the CD which comes with your
         Blackberry
         1. -Put in the CD, this should start the installation
 3. -Install Blackberry desktop manager program v4.1 (which includes
service pack 1)
     1. -Choose English language (35 megabytes) or multiple languages
(130 megabytes)
          https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/download.do?
code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22&dl=96975440B153FDA2D90E46E5CE1142
46&step=2
          filename = 41112dtMULT.exe
          filesize = 130 megabytes
     2. -This service pack 1 fixed at least once on 1 computer the
         error, but on another computer it continuous to give this
         error. But using javaloader.exe it transferred the same file
         just fine to the Blackberry.
          'No additional applications designed for your handheld were
found'
 4. -Install Blackberry 'Handheld' software v4.1
     (you will have to choose the appropriate version for your
      telephone provider)
     1. -E.g.
          1. -Verizon
          2. -Sprint
          3. -Vodafone
          4. -Orange
          ...
     2. -Choose your telephone provider version e.g. here
          http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-software/1871-
blackberryos-4-x-download-faq-upgrade-downloads.html
          1. -That will download e.g.
               BlackBerry 8700 Handheld Software v4.1.0.211
               filesize e.g. about 42 megabytes
 5. -Transfer your Java program
     1. -Possibly create your Java program
         1. -E.g. use Netbeans v5
             1. -Make sure Netbeans mobility pack has been installed
             2. -Make sure RIM JDE v4.1 IDE has been installed
             3. -Make sure to have added Blackberry as a custom mobile
                 phone emulator in Netbeans
             4. -Start Netbeans
             5. -Create your project
                 1. -Insert the extra XML code before the closing
                     </PROJECT> tag
                 2. -Create the new .alx file (e.g. with the same name
as
                     your project)
                     1. -Insert the XML code
                     2. -Save this file

screen)
                 1. -Possibly drag and drop e.g. controls from the
palette on the
                     design form
                 2. -Possibly change source code
             7. -Compile your project
                 1. -Click the green '>' in the menu
     2. -Start the Blackberry desktop manager program v4.1.1
         1. -If your Blackberry connects OK, you see now an extra
             telephone icon on the Microsoft Windows taskbar
     3. -Start the 'Application loader'
         1. -Double click on the icon
         2. -If it works OK, you should now see a list of software
             already on your Blackberry installed
     4. -Now add your Java program
         1. -Click button 'Add'
         2. -Browse to your .alx file
             1. -If you use Netbeans v5.x browse to the directory
                  c:\documents and settings\<your username>\
                 1. -E.g.
                      c:\documents and settings\administrator
             2. -Goto your application
                 1. -E.g.
                      c:\documents and
settings\administrator\MobileApplication1
             3. -Highlight the .alx file there
             4. -Open this .alx file
         3. -Make sure it is selected by clicking on the '+' on the
             left in the Blackberry selection window
     5. -Click button 'Next'
     6. -This will transfer your application(s) to your Blackberry
 7. -Your application is now added as another icon in
     the menu of the Blackberry
 8. -To run your application just navigate to it in the
     menu and click on it (you see the name 'HelloMidlet')
     1. That will e.g. show a screen with 'Hello World'
