Power Conditioning

The fundamental task of a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) device is to
protect the computer system from being affected by the fluctuation in
the power supply. The surge protectors offer an alternative solution to
the UPS by protecting the computer system from spikes if not from
brownouts and blackouts. In fact, even they are not that much effective
in protecting against spikes.

UPS of lowest quality are though useful at the time of brownouts and
blackouts; they, however, are not effective alternative for power
conditioning. However, if you move up the quality scale, you will be
able derive better power conditioning from your UPS, as matter of fact,
fluctuating power sources (also known as “dirty power”) can potentially
damage your computer’s internal power supply source. As a result, the
internal power supply source of your computer will start providing
variable power to the components of the computer which are
fluctuation-sensitive. This will directly affect the hardware components
which can be not diagnosed easily and this, in turn, will result in the
failure of RAM, CPU, and even hard drive.
