What is AJAX and, how does this help in website designing?

AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) is the latest web technology
which is used in web development for faster uploading of the web pages
and making the websites more interactive. Usually, the web pages built
on other web technologies take relatively longer time for getting
uploaded while the visitor requests for a specific page. However,
websites developed on the basis of AJAX load faster because only a small
portion of the web page gets changed while it gets reloaded. For
instance, a website which has many flash pages in it will take longer
time to get uploaded and reloaded if the visitor makes frequent requests
for some specific pages. This is where AJAX based websites help
