The main places for excursions around Alwar, Rajasthan are:
Neemrana Fort Palace : Neemrana Fort Palace is situated in the Neemrana
village of Alwar district. Dating back to the 15th century, the fort 
has
now been converted into a heritage hotel. Infact, it is one of the
oldest heritage resorts in the country and still retains its historic
grandeur.
Kesroli Hill Fort : Yaduvanshi Rajputs built Hill fort of Kesroli, near
Alwar, in the 14th century. Situated amidst picturesque agrarian
surroundings, the fort now counts amongst the oldest heritage hotels in
India.
Siliserh Lake and Palace : 
One of the famous Alwar excursions is the Siliserh Lake. The lake
spreads over an area of approximately 10.5 sq. km. Located almost 12 km
to the southwest of the city of Alwar, this lake offers peace and
serenity to its visitors. Siliserh Lake is surrounded by low hills and
thick forest. On the banks of the lake are some royal cenotaphs. In the
year 1845, Maharaja Vinay Singh built a palace (hunting lodge) for his
Queen Shila near the lake. Now transformed into a tourist bungalow, it
still serves as a delightful tourist spot.
Talvrakash : Located on the Sariska-Alwar road, is a famous pilgrim
spot, Talvrakash. A well-known Rishi, Mandav, underwent penance at this
place. Pilgrims come to this place to take a dip in the hot sulphur
springs. Surrounding Talvrakash are many temples and numerous langurs
(apes) wandering about the place.
Bhartrihari Temple : The Bhartrihari temple is a prominent pilgrimage
center. There is a cenotaph of the legend associated the place with 
King
Bhartrihari, who abandoned the world 21 centuries ago. He roamed about
in these parts in penance and even has his cenotaph here. Every year a
fair is organized at the temple in the months of September/October.
Sariska : Alwar excursion tour is incomplete without a visit to the
Sariska National Park. This sanctuary is located 37 km from the city of
Alwar. Covering an area of approximately 800 sq. km. (core area being
500 sq. km.), Sariska has a rich wildlife and even a wide variety of
birds. Apart from that, attractions of Sariska include the Sariska
Palace, constructed by Maharaja Jai Singh.
Vijai Mandir Palace : Located almost 10 km from Alwar, is the Vijai
Mandir Palace. Built by Maharaja Jai Singh in 1981, the palace houses a
Sita Ram Temple. Enhancing the scenic beauty of the palace is a lake,
adjacent to it. However, the palace is not open to tourists and special
permission has to be taken from the secretary for the purpose.
Prime Attractions In Alwar
There are numerous tourist attractions of Alwar worth seeing. Most of
these places have some history attached to them. They bring alive the
royal past of the city. Some of the places to see in Alwar are:
Bala Quila : Alwar, Rajasthan sightseeing tour must include the Bala
Quila (young fort), dominating the skyline of Alwar. Built atop a hill,
the fort is located approximately 595m above the city. It stretches
about 5 km from north to south and 1.6 km from east to west. Bala Quila
contains 15 large and 51 small towers, comprising of approximately 446
loopholes for the musketry. Other attractions of the fort include
Nikumbha Mahal Palace at the top. The palace is adorned with Bengal
caned marble columns and latticed balconies. The fort has six gates,
namely Jai Pol (gate), Suraj Pol, Laxman Pol, Chand Pol, Krishan Pol 
and
Andheri Gate.
City Palace : Raja Bakhtawar Singh built the City Palace in 1793 A.D. A
fusion of Rajput and Mughal architecture, the palace has a central
courtyard festooned with marble pavilions set on lotus bases. Among
other things, the palace was famous for a drinking cup cut out of a
single emerald, housed in its treasury. Presently, the palace has been
transformed into the district�s collectorate, and houses 
government 
offices.
Alwar Government Museum : A part of City Palace of Alwar has now been
converted into a museum. The museum houses a rare collection of Persian
and Sanskrit manuscripts, arms, musical instruments, bidri work,
miniature paintings, stuffed animals, exquisite brass and pottery works
(from Jaipur, Multan, Bengal and Ceylon), lacquered and ivory work, 
etc.
Purjan Vihar (Company Garden) : Built during the reign of Maharaja Shiv
Dan Singh in 1868, Purjan Vihar is also known as the Company Gardens.
This scenic garden serves as a popular picnic spot during summers. One
of the most attractive features of the garden is setting known as
Shimla. It was built by Maharaja Mangal Singh to provide cool shades as
a relief from the scorching summer heat.
Kesroli Hill Fort : The Hill Fort of Kesroli, Rajasthan dates back to
the 14th century. The fort is situated on top of the rare, dark
Hornstone Breccia rocks. The 50-65 m high fortifications of the fort
offer some amazing views of the fields surrounding it. The
seven-turreted Hill-Fort of Kesroli was constructed by the Yaduvanshi
Rajputs, considered to be the descendants of Lord Krishna. The fort saw
many battles and seizures. First, it was annexed by the Mughals, then
Jats and then Rajputs (in the year 1775). The best period of Hill Fort
was from 1882 to 1934, under the reign of Ranawat Thakur Bhawani Singh.
Now converted into a heritage hotel, the Kesroli hill fort counts
amongst the oldest heritage sites in India. Hill Fort Heritage Hotel,
near Alwar, offers 22 rooms, fully equipped with all the modern
facilities. The various activities that can be undertaken while at the
hotel include playing cards, indoor and outdoor games, reading at the

Neemrana Fort Palace
Neemrana Fort Palace of Rajasthan is situated in village Neemrana of
Alwar district. Maharaja Devi Singh Ji got the Neemrana palace
constructed in the year 1464 AD. The descendants of Prithviraj Chauhan
III, defeated by Mohammad Ghauri in the battle of Tarain, found their
third capital in Neemrana. Raja Rajdeo selected the venue for the fort
palace of Neemrana. The village Neemrana derives its name from Nimola
Meo, a brave local chieftain. After he got defeated in a battle against
the Chauhans, he implored them to give his name to his lost kingdom.
The Neemrana fort palace has now been converted into a heritage hotel.
One of the oldest heritage resorts in the country, Nimrana Fort Palace
Hotel of Rajasthan is rich with ancient magnificence. Each and every
room of the hotel has some historical story attached to it that gives
the theme for the room. Some of the suites have been imparted with the

City Palace Alwar
Time of Construction : 18th Century
Highlights : A magnificent artificial lake, a number of temples, a
Company garden and a museum.
A blend of Rajput and Mughal architecture, the City Palace of Alwar
dates back to the 18th Century. Presently, in the ground floor of the
palace, government offices and district courts are functioning. The
attractions of the City Palace, Rajasthan include an artificial lake
constructed by Maharaja Vinay Singh in 1815. There are also a number of
temples on the banks of the lake.
Inside the palace is a splendid chhatri, having Bengali roof and 
arches.
It is known as Moosi Maharani ki chhatri. Located within this chattri 
is
the Company garden, known as Purjan Vihar. The garden was built during
the reign of Maharaja Shiv Dan Singh in the year 1868. Maharaja Mangal
Singh made further additions to the garden in 1885. This garden is an
ideal picnic spot in summers providing lush green surrounding, along
with the cool shades of its numerous trees.
The Alwar Vinay Vilas Mahal also houses a museum in its upper story
floors, known as the Government Museum. On display in the museum are
some ancient Mughal and Rajput painting dating back to the 18th and 
19th
centuries. The museum also has a rich collection of some rare and
antique Persian, Arabic, Urdu and Sanskrit manuscripts. Amongst these
manuscripts, the most prominent ones include Bostan (the garden of
spring), Waqiat-e-Babri (Mughal emperor Babar�s autobiography) 
and
Gulistan (the garden of roses). Other attractions of the museum consist
of an array of Indian armory weapons and a copy of Mahabharata, painted
by the artists of the Alwar School.
