Why does Access seem to crash with larger OLE objects?

Access lies.  It shows "not-responding" errors when accessing slow-link
mysql queries.  I don't know about OLE objects, but I'd guess it's the
same animal.  Be patient, and, in the time you're waiting for your
result sets, spend a little time coding a "please wait" with possibly a
progress meter for your end-users.
