How can we print an external file (such a *.doc) from a html page in IE and NS?

Your best bet is to convert the file to .pdf format as you never know if 
your viewer has M$ Office on his/her computer, there are some holdout 
that still use WP or Starr Office.  It is pretty close to a sure thing 
that they will have Acrobatic Reader or other pdf viewer and even if 
they don't the download is free, then they would be free to view or 
print the document as required.  This would also be browser cross 
compatible :-)
