how to retain the value in a variable that was generated in runtime while using window.history.back() method

ha mo, Gareth Hay, padmaja,

I think what you want to do is pass variables between pages. For
internet Explorer exploit a secuirty flaw and write to the History
object. You cannot do this to force the browser to go anywhere but if
you want to pass an object or string between pages it works.
E.G. on page 1
history[567]="Hello World"
on page 2
var str = new String(History[567])
will yield "Hello World"
