Why does diskfreespace() fail on OS X?

PHP is not fully supported under OS X and will not be until it's next 
release. (http://www.php.net/release_4_2_0.php)

I'm not sure if you are having a problem with that, but to get around 
some limitations you can go here: 
http://www.entropy.ch/software/macosx/php/
