how a mail password can be hacked

If you are just using a normal POP3 account you can just write a little 
programm (Java, C etc) on your system than accept a connection on the 
pop3 port, This programm also connect the real pop3 server and logs the 
information.
An other way is just to log the TCP/IP session.

If you uses an secure pop3 this won't work
