On my second attecmpt to install, Apache httpd runs and displays 'It's Worked!' web page to clients, but any other html files in htdocs do not display

In time honoured tradition, I am answering my own question. Although I 
had set DocumentRoot in httpd.conf, I had neglected the <Directory 
entry. However there are complications:- I will post these separately!
