Steps: Overview:
1. -Insert the Novell Netware v6 CD, this CD is bootable,
and will start the installation
2. -You will see a screen saying 'Starting Caldera DR-DOS...'
3. -Press 'B' when asked 'ID-CDROM' or 'SCSI CD-ROM'
(this is important)
4. -Select 'Select this line to install in English'
5. -select from list 'Accept License Agreement'
6. -select from list 'Create a New Boot Partition'
7. -select from list 'Continue'
8. -select from list 'Continue'
9. -Press any key to reboot
10. -Make sure you have your CD-ROM as first boot device
(otherwise change it via pressing <F2> when rebooting,
(click on the VMWare window first, to give it
focus), then tab 'boot', and move 'CDROM' upwards.
Otherwise you might see a screen saying:
'Operating system not found...'
11. Make sure you have a floppy disk unit connected in VMWare (via
menu 'Edit'->'Virtual machine settings'-> tab
'Hardware'->Add->'Floppy drive') You might have to restart VMWare
first, if the floppy disk unit is not detected.
So you should see in menu 'Edit'->'Removable devices' and a
CD-ROM, and a floppy disk, afterwards.
And or you should see the floppy disk icon on the
VMWare window taskbar below right.
12. -You will see a screen saying 'Starting Caldera DR-DOS...'
13. -Press 'B' when asked 'ID-CDROM' or 'SCSI CD-ROM'
14. -You will now see a screen saying
'Boot partition being formatted'
15. -Note that you must have at least 180 megabyte of RAM
assigned to your Novell Netware v6.0 in VMWare.
If that is the case you will after a while
see the graphical screen
'Novell Netware 6 Networking services'
I had 256 megabyte RAM and Microsoft Windows XP Professional but
this was not enough to install a full Novell Netware v6 before. So
I only had black MSDOS screens as stated. It is of course much
more nicer to have a graphical user interface (also), after the
installation is finished.
16. You see now the graphical screen
'Novell Netware 6 networking services'
17. -Press <F10> to accept the license agreement
18. -Select the 'Express' install, by selecting 'Continue'
(use <TAB>)
19. -You will see now a screen similar to:
The Express installation will select the following
defaults:
A 4GB Volume SYS will be created
LAN and disk drivers will be auto discovered
Country code: 1
Codepage: 437
Video: Super VGA Plug and Play
Keyboard: United States
Mouse: Auto
Default products will be installed:
- Native File Access
- iManage
- Novell Advanced Audit Services
To select specific options or add additional products
such as:
-iFolder
-iPrint
-NetStorage
go back and choose 'Custom Installation'
20. -Select from list 'Continue'
21. -You will now see a screen:
- File group: Netware Installation Pre-copy
- Source path: Z:\STARTUP
- Destination path: C:\NWSERVER\...
while it is copying files.
22. -After finishing copying, you will see 'Please Wait'
23. -You will see 'Loading driver'
24. -Select the driver (LAN) that best matches your system,
or press <F10> (=no selection)
25. -I selected the default 'CNEAMD.LAN'
26. -You will see 'Loading driver'
27. -You will see 'Saving system information'
28. -You will see 'Looking for disk devices'
29. -You will loading 'mounting CD-ROM'
30. -You will see 'transferring default unicode files'
31. -You will see 'transferring system files'
32. -It will now start copying mostly Java files
33. -You will now a see a graphical interface appear
showing 'Please Wait',
'Copying Files...'
and a flashing 'N' from Novell.
34. -You will now see 'Initializing installation wizard'
35. -Fill in the name for your server in 'Enter the server name'
e.g. 'DELLI8500'
36. -click button 'Next'
37. -You will see now 'Accessing server...'
38. -Enter the location of the region specific cryptography
modules. These files can be found on the Netware 6
license cryptographic diskette.
Default location: 'A:\License\'
(This are files with the extension .NFK)
39. -I chose 90359290.NFK
40. -Specify the network protocol for each network board
1. Click on 'IP' so that this is enabled (V)
2. fill in an IP address (e.g. 192.168.0.3)
3. fill in a subnet mask (e.g. 255.255.255.0)
4. fill in a router gateway (leave empty if
standalone machine)
41. -I chose 'Create new NDS tree' for 'Select eDirectory install'
42. -In NDS information for tree name I chose 'TEST'
and for 'context for server object' also 'TEST'
43. -In 'Administrator information' I chose
Admin Name=admin
Admin Context=root
and supplied the admin password twice
44. -You will now see 'Installing NDS'
'Updating NDS schema'
45. -You will now see:
NDS is installed on DELLI8500
NDS tree name: TESAT
Server context: O=TEST
Administrator name: CN=admin.O=root
After completing the server installation use
Console One to modify and configure NDS
46. -I enabled option 'Install without licenses'
IT said then 'No licenses will be installed
at this time. You may use iManage to install
licenses latger.
47. -It will then inform that it will install additional
products like
Netware OS
native file access for Windows
48. -You will see:
'iPrinting'
'Clustering'
and so on.
49. After installation, remove the diskettes
and reboot.
50. You will then see the graphical Netware
'Networking services' screen with in the
left bottom the 'Novell' start button
with options like
-ConsoleOne
-Install
-Programs
-Utilities
-Settings
-Run
-Close GUI
51. Now possibly install VMWare tools
